This year the Catholic Childrens Society celebrates its Diamond Jubilee. Over the past 60 years we have found new families for over two thousand children, yet we know that the need is still great. There are too many children throughout the country who are still waiting to experience the love and stability of a happy and safe family life.

We are therefore always pleased to hear from any family who would like to know more about adoption.

To mark the Diamond Jubilee, The Society is launching a number of new services to help and support children and families:-

  • We are working with colleagues at MacMillan Care and Family Care to provide emotional support for children and young people who have been bereaved
  • We are running new therapeutic support groups for adopted children
  • A new school social work service provides support to students who may be experiencing a wide range of difficulties and problems in their lives

Bishop Malcolm McMahon, as President, and the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Children’s Society, Nottingham, have announced their intention to merge with Family Care, to become a broad-based Christian family support organisation. It is intended that the merger will take effect in October 2008.

Family Care is the Children and Family Service of the Anglican Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham and provides similar services and, equally importantly, shares the same values as the Catholic Children’s Society, Nottingham. Both organisations are committed to maintaining the needs of vulnerable children and families at the heart of their work.

Bishop Malcolm and Bishop George Cassidy, President of Family Care, and the two Boards of Trustees consider the merger to be the best way of enriching and enhancing the traditions and histories of the two organisations. The merger will enable us to strengthen and maintain our existing adoption and adoption support services, whilst providing the opportunity to continue to develop new ways of supporting children and families.
